Bring a Folk Circle to Your Community

Folk Circle is a simple way to bring people together through conversation, stories, and music.

It can be used in senior living, assisted living, memory care, adult day programs, caregiver groups, community programs, or simply among friends.

You do not need to be a musician to lead a Folk Circle. The idea is simple: give each person an opportunity to share something and choose a song.

They might tell a favorite memory, share a story from their life, talk about something that happened that day, or simply say what’s on their mind. Then they choose a song for the group to hear or sing together.

The story and the song don’t have to be connected. Someone can share whatever is on their mind and then choose a song they love simply because they want to hear it or sing it with the group.

That freedom is part of what makes Folk Circle work. There are no right stories and no right songs.

A Folk Circle can be adapted to the people in your group. It can be short or long, structured or informal, and use the music that your participants enjoy.

Familiar music is doing more here than filling the room. It gives people a reason to participate, talk, and get to know one another.

There is no Folk Circle program to buy, no certification, and no single correct way to do it.
