Finding Your Music

Use whatever works for your group

My Folk Circle comes with a collection of songs you can play right away, and you can add your own music to it. You can also leave the player aside entirely. Use whatever works for your group.

The Music Included with My Folk Circle

My Folk Circle includes a supplied collection of songs, ready to play. Choose Start a Folk Circle, use Find a Song to pick one, and press play.

A song can show its words on the screen while it plays, and Auto Scroll keeps those words moving at whatever speed suits your group. You can also print the words for one song or for several songs at once, so people have something in their hands.

Your Own Music

Coordinators can add their own music through My Music. Add or Edit Music lets you choose an audio or video file from the phone, tablet, or computer you are using, and fill in the title, the performer, and the words if you would like them. Everything you add sits alongside the supplied songs in Find a Song.

Please only add music you have the right to use with your group.

Music you add stays on the device you added it on. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, there are no accounts, and there is nothing to sign up for.

A Live Musician

A folk singer, guitarist, pianist, or other musician can provide the music.

For senior communities and organized groups, this may be one of the easiest and most enjoyable approaches.

The musician helps participants sing the songs they choose.

Music You Already Have

Groups can use CDs, legally purchased or downloaded music, or another music collection they already have.

The music can come from a phone, tablet, computer, CD player, or existing sound system.

YouTube

YouTube provides a large selection of performances and may be convenient for some groups.

YouTube may display advertisements before or during music. Those advertisements are controlled by YouTube.

Not Sure What to Sing?

Some kinds of songs tend to work especially well in a Folk Circle. Our list of song ideas is a starting point, not a required songbook.

Help Us Grow the Collection

The collection included with My Folk Circle is still small, and we would like it to keep growing.

We are inviting musicians and songwriters to let us include selected original songs and recordings that they have permission to share. We may also be able to include recordings of public-domain music and, in some circumstances, other music when the necessary permissions can be obtained.

As that collection grows, Folk Circle groups will be able to play more music directly from this site.
